Our Staff Reporter FAISALABAD - Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that on the special directions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif elaborated security arrangements have been made for peaceful observance of Ashura-e-Muharram in the province. He said that advance security surveillance system had been devised for keeping the law & order situation under control and protection of Muharram processions and majalis. He was talking to the media persons here at Circuit House after reviewing implementation on Muharram security plan in the district On Monday. The Minister said that stringent security measures had been taken to avoid any possible eventuality during the holy month besides mobilizing peace committees across the provincial at police station level to maintain religious harmony. He informed that the Muharram security arrangements were being monitored by the provincial and divisional monitoring committees and close liaison had also been strengthened among different segment of the society including Ulema, traders and media to foil any attempt of disturbing peaceful atmosphere by miscreants. He appealed to the media to extend full cooperation for making Muharram arrangements a success. Earlier, reviewing the pace of implementation on Muharram plan in the district, the Minister directed the district administration and police to remain extra-ordinary watchful on Ashura and utilise all-out resources and security gadgets made available for security, especially at sensitive and important points. Rana Sana said that proper and comprehensive health cover arrangements should also be kept in place for providing rapid medical first aid in case of any possible incident. The minister said that the processions and majalis should be covered through CCTV cameras from its start to culmination for keeping close eye on the movement of the antistate elements. He advised that extra-forces and resources should be deployed in sensitive areas and sabeels on the routes of processions should not be allowed without checking and scrutiny. The minister also directed that control rooms should be activated to ensure close contact with the provincial control room and time to time information regarding the progress of the processions and security arrangements be communicated. He expressed his hope that Ashura Muharram would be observed in a peaceful manner as the Punjab government had made all humanly possible security arrangements. During the meeting DCO Naseem Sadiq and CPO Bilal Siddique briefed the minister regarding the Muharram security arrangements and informed that foolproof security had been ensured for 426 processions and 1,308 majalis in the district. They also informed about the sectarian profile in the district and said that ban on pillion-riding, use of loudspeakers, publication of objectionable material, display of arms, wall chalking and playing of CDs/cassettes pertaining to the hatred speeches had also been got implemented in letter and spirit. They apprised the minister of the deployment formula of the forces on the different categories of processions and majalis and said extra-ordinary security arrangements would be ensured on Ashura day and the routes of the processions would completely sealed with barbed wire and fences. Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain, RPO Aftab Cheema, MNA Begum Khalida Mansur, MPA Kh Muhammad Islam, Mrs Anjum Safdar, Mian Ajmal Asif, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, Dr Khalid Imtiaz Baloch, Juel Amir Sahutra and others were also present in the meeting.
