ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik Monday lashing out at Mansoor Ijaz, a man at the center of memo controversy, urged the US government to take action against him. The minister said he was violating US laws and destabilising Pakistan by passing false statements against the countrys Armed Forces and political leadership. He was talking to media persons after chairing a meeting regarding the law and order situation in the country on the eve of Youma-e-Ashur at the ministry of interior. Malik, what can be said the governments response about Mansoor Ijazs statement that President Asif Ali Zardari and former Pakistan ambassador to US Hussain Haqqani had prior knowledge about Abbotabad operation, said, US itself admitted that Pakistani government and Haqqani were not aware about the operation so it must take action against Mansoor Ijaz for issuing false statements. The interior minister stressed that US always demanded of Pakistan to do more and now it was the time for US to take action against the person who was violating its law by misguiding the international community. All the information related to Mansoor Ijaz is being collected and Interpol will be approached for further investigations, he said, adding that Ijaz had been kept changing his stance on the issue since the very first day. He also informed that legal branch of the interior ministry was looking into the matter thoroughly for lodging of complaint against Ijaz at some appropriate forum. Malik said that he was waiting for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)s response in connection with Ijazs false statements and would see when he would approach Supreme Court? He said that Ijaz visited Pakistan in 2007 and 2008 and also went to Azad Jammu & Kashmir along with his mother and he was the person who had asked the people of Kashmir to abandon the demand of their right to self-determination. Hussain Haqqanis name would be placed on Exit Control List (ECL) soon after the ministry received written orders from the apex court, he said while responding to a question. He, however, clarified that Haqqani had no plan of leaving Pakistan and if he had such intentions, he had not come back. He also termed the governments decision to boycott Bonn Conference according to the will of the people. About the US-led NATO attack on Pakistani military posts in Mohmand Agency, he underlined that they would not allow anyone to violate the countrys sovereignty at any cost and the nation knew how to defend borders of the country. He reminded the world that 36,000 Pakistanis including personnel of law enforcement agencies and Armed Forces had given their lives in the war on terror while the countrys economy suffered a loss of $65 billion in this war. He revealed that Jandullah, a terrorist organisation of Iran, not Taliban carried out the terrorist attack on Muharram procession in Karachi last year. He also informed the reporters that all the chief secretaries as well as inspector generals of police of all the provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan and secretary interior also were closely monitoring the law and order situation during Muharram. Malik urged Ulema and religious scholars across the country to spread message of love and brotherhood and suggested Taliban to respect the month of Muharram. Earlier, during the meeting, the participants were informed that the government had dispatched more security officials and helicopters to the provinces on their request for ensuring security during Muharram. The federal government has also asked the provincial governments to install extra cameras at the routes of congregations to keep an eye on miscreant elements. Frontier Corps and Rangers have also been deployed in the sensitive areas on the direction of the interior ministry. The meeting was informed that there were some indications of terrorist activities in some areas of Karachi on 8th of Muharram and the government ensured strict security measures as preemptive move. There were reports that elements who had attacked the residence of SP crime investigation department (CID) Karachi, Chaudhry Aslam can carry out terrorist activities during Muharram.
