LAHORE Agri Forum Pakistan Chairman Ibrahim Mughal has said that the wheat production target of 25m tons is unlikely to be achieved this year because the trend of cultivating certified seed has decreased substantially. He also said that non-serious attitude of the government towards the agriculture has put the economy and food security at high risk. He further said that the Punjab Seed Corporation produced one million bags of wheat seed out of which only 325,000 have been utilised by the end of wheat sowing season. He said that the poor growers could not use the certified seed due to the sluggish attitude of the agriculture department. Ibrahim Mughal further added that the ratio of the use of standardised and certified seed has decreased upto 50 per cent this year if compared with the previous years.
