FAISALABAD - World Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif was warmly welcomed by his relatives, citizens and sports organisations when he arrived at the Faisalabad Airport.

Muhammad Asif was garlanded and hugged by his lovers when he came out of the Airport. The citizens greeted him on his victory and shouted slogans in favour of him. They were carrying banners congratulating the champion for bringing laurels to the nation.  The hero of the nation was brought in a welcome procession from the Airport to Zila Council Chowk where DCO Waheed Akhtar Ansari received him. Divisional Sports Officer Mian Zubair Ahmad, District Sports Officer Tariq Nazir and other sports staff were also present. The DCO congratulated him on his remarkable success and gave him a cheque of Rs100,000 as prize on behalf of the district administration and awarded him with honorary membership of Chenab Club.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has already announced a cash award of Rs1 million for him. The DCO announced the establishment of Snooker Training Academy at Faisalabad with the consultation of World Champion Muhammad Asif. He announced that the road of Asif’s residence at Kausarabad would be named after the champion. Expressing his views, the DCO said that Asif had brightened the name of Pakistan by winning the World Championship of Snooker and his success would inspire youngsters in the field of sports.

He said that the nation was proud of his victory. He announced that a mega reception would be hosted by the citizens of Faisalabad very soon in the honour of the hero and he would be awarded more prizes by Faisalabad people. Jubilant Asif thanked God and said he had won the World Championship by the prayers of the nation and expressed his commitment to play more games at the World level.  The World Champion was also brought at Chowk Ghanta Ghar and people lifted him on their shoulders besides throwing the rose petals on him.
