LAHORE – Five religious political parties on Wednesday formed an electoral alliance, Mutahida Deeni Mahaz, led by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami chief Maulana Samiul Haq.

The component parties had given mandate to the convener of the alliance to contact other likeminded parties to broaden the scope of MDM. Other component parties include Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Nazriati, Jamiat Ahle Hadith and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sawad-e-Azam.

Addressing a press conference along with heads of component parties Maulana Ahmed Ludhianvi, Abdul Qadir Loni, Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer and Pir Mehfooz Mashadi, Maulana Samiul Haq said  the purpose of MDM was to protect the ideology of the country. Announcing a committee comprising heads of component parties, he said that it would approach leadership of PML-N, PTI, JUI-F and JI and invite them to join MDM. He said that the newly-constituted alliance was in contact with Munawar Hasan who had given assurance that the matter would be taken up in the next JI shoora meeting.
