MANDI BAHAUDDIN - The local gas consumers has demanded immediate withdrawal of the recent increase in the rate of liquefied petroleum gas, saying that the Rs15 per kg increase would put another financial burden on the domestic consumers.

In Mandi Bahauddin, a cylinder for domestic consumers was being sold at Rs1,700 and now its price would shoot up to more than Rs2,000. The consumers said LPG cylinders are purchased only in case gas connections are not provided due to lack of relations with local political leaders. They said that they use gas for the whole month for about Rs1,000 monthly bill whereas those unable to get a gas connection have to purchase three to four gas cylinders in a month for domestic use.

They said that they had submitted a number of complaints to the authorities concerned but to no avail showing that the government was not concerned to address the people's grievances.
