PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that polio eradication is an issue of common concern for which hectic and concerted efforts are underway.

He said this while presiding over the quarterly meeting of the Task Force on Polio Eradication at Governor’s House, Peshawar on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by MNAs Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuhu who is the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication and Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Chairperson of Polio Oversight Committee; team leaders of WHO and UNICEF and representatives of 11-Corps of Pak Army besides Provincial Minister for Health, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, Chairman, Standing Committee of Provincial Assembly on Health, Syed Jaffar Shah, Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar, Commissioners and District Coordination Officers from across the province.

The Provincial Secretary Health briefed the participants about the prevailing situation, ongoing steps to streamline the polio eradication campaign and the measures to give further boost to the efforts in this respect.

The governor welcomed the regular visits and participation of the federal dignitaries in the proceedings of the Provincial Task Force for Polio Eradication and pointed out that the presence of the responsible focal persons right from district to the central level in the meeting is the clear reflection of the keen interest at the national level in this respect.

Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuhu and Shahnaz Wazir Ali while referring to the national targets in controlling the polio; were of the view that indeed an appreciable system has been established to overcome the polio virus.

Now, it was added, we are giving relook to the state of preparedness, wherein the future campaigns could be further strengthened and reinforced with much more zeal and spirit. Working of all the control rooms, it was also stressed, has to be further streamlined.
