KARACHI - An alleged target killer caught red-handed while trying to escape after the killing of prayer leader-cum-seminary teacher inside the Jamia Masjid-o-Madrassa Islamia situated in New Karachi within the limits of Bilal Colony police station on Wednesday.

Qari Ahsanullah Rasheed, 45, son of Abdul Rasheed, was shot once in his head with a point blank range when he was teaching Quran to the students of the seminary.  Witnesses said that one out of three armed motorcyclists entered the Masjid and shot dead the cleric before fleeing. Residents and students of the seminary chased the assailants and managed to catch an alleged accused who was later identified as Kashif Shakoor aka Bilal, a resident of Quaidabad area.

SP Salman Hussain said that seminary students managed to catch him when his motorcycle was not get started and two of his companions were managed to flee. The deceased was associated with the said seminary for the last 15 years as a prayer leader. SP Hussain said the accused and deceased, both belonging to Ahle Hadith sect and had also been waged jihad in past. The officer said further investigation was underway.

Earlier, a young man belonging to Shia sect, was shot dead in Tariq Road within the limits of Ferozabad police station. The deceased was identified as Tanvir Hussain Bangash, 28, son of Hussain Bangash, resident of PECHS Society.

Police said that deceased was sitting at his car showroom located at Shaheed-e-Millat Road when two armed men riding a motorcycle came close to him and escaped after shooting him twice. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. The victim’s body was taken to Shah Khurasan Imambargah, Numaish Chowrangi where a score of people also staged protest against the targeted killing.

Meanwhile, score of people staged a protest causing massive traffic jam on MA Jinnah Road and its surrounding areas during the funeral prayers of a joint in-charge of the Sunni Tehreek’s PIB Colony sector, Zahid Qadri, who was shot dead on Tuesday in Jamshed Quarters area.

 His funeral prayers were offered at Khatri Masjid in Nishter Basti area near his home.

After the funeral, some miscreants set a vehicle on fire while staging protest and demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the killing of ST workers.
