PESHAWAR - World famous Japanese wrestler M Hussain Inoki and his team were warmly welcome here at the Qayum Stadium on Wednesday to participate in the Inoki’s Wrestling for Peace Festival.

They were welcomed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Sports Minister, Syed Aqil Shah and a large number of spectators warmly welcomed them.

Chairperson Standing Committee for Sports, MPA Shagufta Malik, Secretary Sports, Syed Jamaluddin Shah, Secretary Information, Azmat Hanif Orakzai and Director General Sports, Altaf Omerzai were also present on the occasion.

There were a big crowd were present with their cheering hands and witnessed all the five free styles contests of the wrestlers famous in the world. The distinguished guests were decorated with traditional Chitrali Caps and Shawls. Khattak Dance, Mehsud Dance, Para Gliding, Horse Dance and traditional games “Peto-Garam, Guli Danda” and Kabaddi were played on the occasion. The distinguished guests were welcomed among applause and by flying pigeons in the air on the occasion.

The Information Minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said through holding Inoki’s Wrestling for Peace Festival and four other national events in Peshawar, it has proved that the circumstances in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were fit for holding all types of games and the dwellers of this land were peace loving and that they hated insurgency and militancy. Announcing the formal launching of the Inoki’s Wrestling for Peace Festival, sports minister said: Through sports and other tourism related activities in the province, we want to convey the message of peace to the whole world.” He said the peace loving people of KPK were not militants rather militancy had been imposed on them. He said: “We are peace loving people and have given sacrifices of lives for peace and would also give any type of sacrifice in future for peace. He specially thanked Provincial Sports Minister, Syed Aqil Shah for holding this international event in Peshawar.”

He also thanked the world famous wrestler Inoki for holding the wrestling festival in Peshawar and providing moments of pleasure to the people of war-hit province. He vowed to welcome holding of such type of national and international events in Peshawar. They would never bow before militants and would continue their Jihad against the militants till their end, he added.

Information Minister said all out efforts would be made for the successful holding of Bacha Khan International Wrestling for Peace Championship at Qayum Stadium from December 8-9 in which teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan would participate. He appealed the people to participate in large number in the Bacha Khan International Wrestling for Peace Championship.
