ISLAMABAD - Muttahid Quami Movement yesterday termed the registration of FIR against its chief Altaf Hussain in Imran Farooq murder case a political suicide attack on the Nawaz Sharif’s government.

MQM after registration of FIR against his party chief has almost made up its mind to join hands with newly formed united opposition group in the National Assembly, which consists of PPP, PTI, PML-Q and FATA members.

“The timing of registration of FIR against Altaf bhai is not understandable. It could be an attempt to divert attention of masses from the MQM’s victory in the Local Government election in Karachi,” commented MQM leader Ali Raza Abidi talking to The Nation.

About legality of the FIR, he said, the FIR has no legal value and simply a political suicide attack on Nawaz Sharif’s government.

When asked about joining hands with united opposition group in the National Assembly, Abidi said his party might also join united opposition in the Nation Assembly. “The decision to become part of the united opposition will be taken by the party...After the completion of LG polls this matter will be discussed,” he added.

FIA has launched FIR against MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Mohammad Anwar, Muazzim Ali, Kashif, Syed Mohsin Ali and Khalid Shameem in Imran Farooq murder case.

The MQM has recently expressed reservations over not making Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) functional, as the party rejoined parliament only after government’s assurance to address its grievances.

MQM Parliamentary Leader Farooq Sattar has also shared the party’s concerns with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for not starting work on the body (GRC). The party is also set to raise this matter in the upcoming National Assembly session. The federal government had notified five-member committee on October 16 but still it was not made functional.
