Businesswomen team to take part in Lanka trade exhibition

KARACHI (APP): A group of prominent women entrepreneurs under the umbrella of FPCCI and in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will participate in the international trade exhibition being held in Sri Lanka next month. Talking to APP here, Syeda Saeeda Bano, President KWCCI (District East) and Chairperson FPCCI Standing Committee on Women Handicrafts, said these women would exhibit different women-made products like handicrafts, shoes, jewellery, garments, marble, Abaya and applique work. She said Pakistani women entrepreneurs had already participated in international trade exhibitions held in different countries including Bahrain, Malaysia and India and within the country.

They had received very good response, which has encouraged many other women to come ahead.

The chamber has received a good order from Indonesia for Susi cloth, she said.

She said the women entrepreneurs were participating in the ongoing SAARC Expo in Lahore and had set- up 12 stalls displaying many products.

“Our focus is to promote cultural and traditional items through value-addition,” she said.

The President WCCI Karachi (East) appealed to the Sindh government to provide more facilities and incentives to businesswomen including offices for women chambers of commerce and industry, and for display centres.

At present, she said the chamber had set- up a display centre near Awami Markaz, Shara-e-Faisal in a rented room.

She said that her chamber had arranged trainings on information technology, marketing, packaging and processing for increasing the exports of the country.

Syeda Saeeda Bano informed that she had sent a proposal to the USAID office here for extending financial and logistics support to the chamber for basic education of women and vocational trainings.

Soil test based fertiliser prediction model developed

LAHORE (APP): Provincial Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed said on Saturday that soil test based fertilizer prediction models had been developed to predict the required amount of nitrogen and phosphorus for desired yield of major crops. Addressing a press briefing here, he said that farmers could use these prediction models to determine the actual amount of nitrogen and phosphorus for desired yield of wheat, cotton, sugarcane, rice and maize crops. He said that farmers could invest according to their financial resources and earn profit up to Rs 100,000 per acre from arable cropping and Rs 300,000 to 400,000 per acre from high value farming by using the e-solutions from the website.

This step would prove milestone in improving the efficiency of fertilizers and ultimately the income of farmers, he added.

Dr Farrukh Javed said the government was determined to take the technology at the doorstep of every farmer of the province.

He said that UAF had taken a revolutionary step to utilize state of the art ICT means to disseminate the information among the farming community.

He further stated that the uniqueness of the fertilizer models was that it was two way communication i.e. farmer and expert.

For this purpose farmers could visit the website: as these models have been developed as a result of untiring hard work and efforts of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in collaboration with Agriculture Department, Punjab.

Principal Investigator UAF, Dr. Muhammad Rashid briefed the gathering regarding fertilizer models and income increasing plans developed by University.

He said that UAF had also developed e-solutions for site specific and economical crop production technology for every individual farmer according to his piece of land and financial resources.

PakWheels Auto Show opens in Faisalabad today

FAISALABAD (INP):, Pakistan’s leading automotive website, will be holding the PakWheels Auto Show at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on December 6, 2015. The show will showcase more than 300 vehicles, featuring latest international cars and motorcycles. Also, PakWheels auto show will be displaying a range of super sports cars for the first time in the country such as Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari F430. More than 50,000 visitors are expected to attend this mega event along with various auto clubs and groups from Lahore, Peshawar and other cities. Uzbek ambassador assures

cooperation in energy, agriculture

ISLAMABAD (APP): Ambassador of Uzbekistan Furkat A Sidikov Friday assured cooperation to Pakistan in various fields especially energy and agriculture. Addressing a seminar on “23rd anniversary of the adoption of Constitution of Uzbekistan”, he said Uzbekistan was promoting bilateral cooperation with Pakistan from last several years. The seminar was jointly organized by Preston University, Society of Civilizations Pakistan and embassy of republic of Uzbekistan. He urged the need to enhance close cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan for trade, energy and cultural exchanges between the countries. He said “We have good brotherly ties with Pakistan and Pakistan always gave respect to Uzbek nationals.”

The ambassador said the direct flight from Lahore to Tashkent would be operational from March next year, which would enhance tourism between the said countries.

Two scholars of M. Phil. and Ph.D International Relations, Tariq Riaz Minhas and Tasleem Malik presented research papers on the occasion regarding Uzbekistan.

A documentary on the development, tradition and culture was also shown on the occasion. The Uzbek Ambassador presented shields to the key-note speakers including Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali Qureshi and Amanullah Memon, Professor, International Relations Department, Preston University. On the occasion, Malik Liaqat Ali Tabassum, Chairman, Pakistan Thinkers Forum, Peshawar presented Chitarli caps to the Uzbek Ambassador and diplomats.

Samsung enables entrepreneurs win silver award at APICTA
