ISLAMABAD - President Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, has demanded that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) be given powers on the lines of Indian Election Commission for smooth and orderly conduct of the polls.

Talking to a group of reporters at his residence here on Tuesday, Shujaat Hussain said if the PML-N really wanted to see the Election Commission independent, it should support his proposal. Without naming the PML-N leaders, who claim that the key to election date was with them, the PML-Q President said they would soon agree that all the assemblies be dissolved on a single day. He said if elections to national and provincial assemblies were held on different date, these would have impact on results of provincial assemblies. Replying to a question, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that his party has neither proposed names for the caretaker prime minister nor there had been final meeting with the government in this connection. He termed the PML-N sit-in in front of the Parliament as flop show and said it had no comparison with the one staged by Dr Tahirul Qadri.
