LAHORE - PML-Q Punjab General Secretary and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheer uddin and Senior Vice President Muhammad Basharat Raja have strongly criticised the so called party leaders for creating rifts in the party ranks, saying those objecting to the eligibility of PML-Q heads for contesting party elections, should need first to examine their own past. In a joint press release issued on Sunday, they said the opportunists like Hamid Nasir Chattha, Saleem Saif Ullah and Humayun Akhtar were afraid of vying party elections due to their misdeeds and actions against the party interests. With the elections of all party office bearers by holding free, fair and impartial polls under the supervision of an impartial commission through the general council, anarchists would have no option but to zip their lips, they added. On the other hand, office bearers of various PML wings including lawyers, Labour, Youth and Education, elections of party office bearers could never be held in a drawing room meeting under the auspices of some political orphans. Instead, a clear-cut procedure for electing office bearers had been laid down in the party constitution, they said, according to which every member was free to contest the party elections. They slammed Salim Saif Ullah, Humayun Akhtar, Kashmala Tariq and Hamid Nasir Chatta for conspiring to hijack the party by promoting drawing room politics. They hoped that general council members would foil the venomous intrigue by electing all office bearers in a democratic manner. Expressing complete confidence on the leadership of Ch Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi, they vowed to re-elect them with a huge mandate.
