LAHORE - Former Olympians lauded the government decision of recognising Lt Gen (r) Arif Hassan-led Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) terming it a big step towards the revival of Pakistan sports.

Former Olympians including Samiullah, Manzoor Junior, M Saqlain, Naveed Alam, Saleem Nazim, Qamar Zia, Rasheed Ul Hasan, Jahangir Butt, Col (r) Mudassar, Khawaja Zakaudin, Khalid Mahmood, Tariq Imran and others, in their joint statement, felicitated PAO chief Gen Arif Hassan and hoped that he would work purely for the promotion of Pakistan sports and bring it to the new heights.

They said that the tussle between the two POAs had harmed the Pakistan sports and the timely decision of the government in this regard has not only saved the sports from further decline but also saved the country from International Olympic Committee (IOC) ban.

“It is hoped that now Pakistan sports will prevail not only at national level but also at international level. Now, the POA should focus on earning top position at Asian level and also prepare the men in green for big stages,” they added.
