LAHORE The new IT system, introduced on the desire of Punjab Chief Minister to provide online access to the students for Matric examination, has put the future of no less than 6,000 students at stake. Sources said that thousands of students could not appear in the examination due to the mismanagement of the authorities concerned. Controller Examination BISE Lahore, Manzur-ul-Hassan Niazi however claimed that only 250 candidates from Lahore were effected and the board management was trying its best to facilitate them by relaxing its rules. It is worth mentioning here that above said candidates could not receive their roll number slips or their examination centres were mixed mutually with the male and female or centres were established beyond access of the candidates. Interestingly, 10 to 12 candidates were allotted Central Jail Kot Lakhpat Lahore, a highly guarded area due to imprisonment of Raymond Davis there, as the examination centre. Niazi said that most of the students sent their admission form without their pictures and there was hard rule of BISE that roll number slip could not be issued without picture on admission form. The students also did not send hard copy of their admission form to BISE due to which the problems were increased. An IT officer seeking anonymity said that the issue was not with the BISE Lahore but with all the boards of Punjab and majority of the students who faced the problem belonged to Rawalpindi board and Multan board. He said that most of the students who had to face problems were private students as they had to fill their admission form from the owners of Net Cafes who in the lust of collecting more money from the maximum candidates filled their forms wrongly or incomplete and ultimately candidates were suffering. BISE Lahore management was also facing problem in redressal of the grievances since most of the students who had sent their admission form online, now dont remember their pin code for the correction of their form, a board official said. When contacted Dr Majid Naeem, IT consultant for all the boards of Punjab, said that there was nothing wrong with the system because the supplementary examination of Inter and Matriculation last year were held under this system successfully. Secondly, he said that the option of online submission of admission form was an extra facility for the candidates and it was mentioned on admission form very clearly that it is for checking purpose and hard copy of the form was necessary to send the board separately. He said that just like boards upload their results on the internet for the facility of the students it never means that after that there was no need to prepare hard copy of result and board prepare the same. He said actually there were two to three reasons behind all the mess. He said that certain people within the board computer section department were not happy with the online and computerised system of examination. He said that they penetrate in manual examination system and get their vested interest by managing staff and centres of their own choice, so they were the main hurdle in failure of the system. Secondly students were left on the mercy of Internet Cafe owners who looted the students by charging high fees for filling the forms and entertained the students more than their capacity due to which errors occurred in the forms.
