LAHORE JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that terrorism and extremism was imported to Pakistan by those who shouldered the so-called US war on terror. Talking to newsmen after an informal meeting with Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hassan and other leaders at Mansoora on Saturday, Maulana Fazl said the US and its allies have been using excessive force and spilling the blood of millions of innocent Muslims on vague pretexts and false allegations for the last ten years. They deprived independent nations of their liberties and crushed human rights of their citizens, but still accuse Muslims of extremism and terrorism, he added. Rejecting the impression that his meeting was aimed at forming another alliance against the PPP, he said the meeting with the JI leadership was just an informal, unscheduled visit while the meeting in Islamabad was called to evolve a joint strategy on common issues among the opposition parties. He said that the MMA (Muttahidda Majlis-e-Amal) is still intact and only its components needed to be reactivated. Referring to the Raymond Davis issue, he said the American was a criminal who killed innocent Pakistanis and was involved in suspicious activities. He said that Dr Aafia Siddiqi was sentenced to 86 years in the US despite lack of evidence against her. JI leaders Liaqat Baloch, Farid Paracha, Hafiz Idrees, Maulana Abdul Maalik and JUI-F leaders Riaz Durrani, Maulana Amjad Khan and Bilal Mir were also present. The JUI-F chief asked the superpower (the US) and its allies to tell whether the quantum of terrorism has reduced by the war, and if yes, how much, during the last decade. He said terrorism thrust into Pakistan was not only a threat to this country but to the entire region. He said religious leaders had warned Gen Musharraf against his misadventures, but he made the entire nation suffer due to his blunders. He said that it was a pity that a unanimous resolution of the parliament has yet to be implemented. Referring to the gruesome murder of Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti, Maulana Fazl said all religious and religio-political parties condemned the tragic incident. He said that certain lobbies are trying to malign Pakistanis, Muslims and Islam and the same lobbies got Shahbaz Bhatti murdered. Rejecting the impression being given by pro-West lobbies and the western media that the murders of Shahbaz Bhatti and Salman Taseer reflect decreasing tolerance among the Pakistani Muslims, he said that the leadership of all religious parties has condemned their killings and demanded exemplary punishment for killers. He said that the West always showed intolerance towards Islam, its ideals and sacred figures, as is reflected in repeated printing of blasphemous sketches in the western media and the desecration of the Holy Quran. But Muslims are labeled as intolerant and extremists, he said, adding that US troops at the Guantanamo Bay and other jails in Iraq and Afghanistan committed worst human rights abuses against innocent Muslims caged there.
