LAHORE Minhaj-ul-Quran and Pakistan Awami Tehreek jointly organised demonstrations across the country on Saturday to protest against the increase in POL prices, price hike and inflation. These demonstrations were simultaneously held in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujrat, Abottabad and other cities. In Lahore, the rally started from Masjid-e-Shuhada and culminated at Faisal Chowk outside Punjab Assembly. The participants were carrying PAT flags and placards and banners inscribed with the demands of decrease in prices of petroleum products and essential items. Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi, Secretary General of MQI, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, senior deputy secretary general, Anwar Akhtar, Secretary General of PAT and Irshad Ahmad Tahir led the protest demonstration. GM Malik, Jawad Hamid, Sajid Bahtti, Afzal Gujjra, Hafiz Ghulam Farid and other leaders were also part of the demonstration. Addressing the participants, Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that the policies aimed at snatching the last loaf of bread from the masses and the practice was continuing for the last three years. He said that the government had been increasing the prices of POL products every month under different excuses, which the people of Pakistan fully reject. He said that last three years saw an unprecedented increase in the prices of the eatables from 50 to 150 percent. Quoting various figures, he said that sugar, flour, milk, curd, meat, rice, pulses registered phenomenal increase. He suggested the government to fix the prices of eatables and put a cap on it for five years. Anwar Akhtar said that the conduct of the government during last three years had put a question mark over its performance.
