LAHORE - A boy confessed to police that he had killed his friend and thrown away his body in a canal over a minor monetary row, police said on Sunday. Hafiz Usman confessed to killing his 17-year-old friend Ali Salman in connivance with his accomplice Muhammad Tayyab, Muridke Circle DSP Mian Akram said. Ghulam Zakariya, father of the deceased, a resident of Satellite Town, Gujranwala, had told police concerned that his son went to play videogame on August 24 but did not return home. I visited videogames shop where my son went last time and inquired about his whereabouts. His friends told me that he was leaving for somewhere with a boy namely Hafiz Usman on a motorbike when they last saw him, he added. Zakariya tried to find his son, but to no avail. Meanwhile, police raided Usmans residence and arrested him. Reportedly, the accused first denied knowing anything at all about Ali Salman and later during investigation confessed to killing him. A case under section 364 of Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against Usman and Tayab. Usman told the police that he had borrowed Rs 1500 from his class fellow Ali Salman and they often met at the videogames shop. He further said that he took Salman with him to give him his money back. He said that he gave a poisonous drink to Salman and as he fell unconscious, he with the help of Tayab cut his throat and later threw his body into the canal near Muridke. Zakaria said that after spotting the body in the canal, some people buried his son in a local graveyard as an unidentified person. The body was exhumed for postmortem. Youth shot dead A 17-year-old youth was gunned down in Harbanspura police area in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Umar Farooq, a resident of Sardar Public Street. Police said that the deceased was killed during a dacoity bid when he was returning home after accomplishing his duties in a paper factory at about 2am. They further said that some accused shot him in the temple. Police have registered an FIR against unnamed accused on the statement of Mohammad Rafiq, father of the deceased. The body was handed over to the heirs after necessary medico-legal formalities. PRISONER dies at hospital An ailing prisoner of the Camp Jail died at the Services Hospital on Sunday, the jail administration claimed. The deceased Mohammad Umar was in jail for his involvement in narco-business. Shadman police said that he was sick since long and on the day of incident he fell unconscious after which the jail administration admitted him to the Services Hospital where he breathed his last. Police handed over the body to the heirs after necessary legal formalities.
