ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the Provincial and Federal Finance Ministers to evolve a mechanism for generating additional resources to meet the yawning cost of reconstruction. He emphasised upon the Provincial and the Federal Governments to generate additional resources but he did not talk about any one-time tax as wrongly reported by certain media, said Farhatullah Babar, the Spokesman to the President. If the foreign governments help us they would pay us from their own taxpayers money. Then this question arises that why cant our own taxpayers share this burden with their brethren in time of need, Babar quoted the President while addressing the crucial meeting of Sindh Cabinet, which was also attended by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday. According to the Presidential Spokesman, it was not the issue of one-time tax on house owners or so but the Presidents idea was sharing the burden by those who had not only escaped the natural calamity but also benefited from the floodwaters that had nourished their barren lands. He said that the President was of the view that the international community was helping Pakistan but that would not be sufficient to meet the cost of reconstruction. Therefore, generation of additional indigenous resources would increase the credibility besides meeting the need for the extra funds.
