LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed the hope that the meeting of Council of Common Interests to be held today (Monday) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would be very productive. Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the federal government should give the provinces funds without further delay as already much time had been wasted. He reiterated his earlier stand that each province should be given funds according to the extent of damage caused by floods. The rehabilitation work should be carried out through the provinces and all funds used very transparently, the chief minister said and added, the Centre should trust the provinces. Online adds: Shahbaz Sharif said that federal government has not yet provided any assistance to the Punjab Government for flood-affected people of the province. Talking to media persons during his visit to the flood-affected areas on Sunday, the CM said that the provincial government had not yet received any financial assistance from the federal government to tackle the challenge of flood-affected people of the province, however Punjab government had been taking every possible measure to ensure provision of financial assistance to the flood affectees ahead of Eidul Fitr. He also emphasised that the government was fully aware of the difficulties faced by the people in flood-hit areas and in order to tackle the threats of epidemics in the inundated areas, the government was providing medical facilities at all the relief camps. The CM also reiterated that the provincial government wouldnt take rest unless each and every family was not rehabilitated in the respective areas.
