ISLAMABAD - National Defence Day of Pakistan will be observed across the country today with zeal and fervour to pay homage to the martyrs who rendered supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland.

September 6 is marked by the civil and military authorities as well as the nation at large paying respect to the personnel of the armed forces and civilians who laid their lives for the country.

The day will begin with special prayers in the mosques for the peace, prosperity and solidarity of the country, and for the peace to the souls of the martyrs.

Numerous functions will be held all across the country to mark the day. Change of guard ceremonies will be held at the mausoleums of the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi and Allama Iqbal in Lahore. Special ceremonies will be held at all units and formation of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Floral wreaths will be laid at the graves of Nishan-i-Haider holders and other Shuhadas of the armed forces.

Pakistan Defence Day will also be celebrated with enthusiasm in the provincial capital Peshawar and all other cantonments of KPK. Pak Army, on the occasion, will arrange a special exhibition to showcase the splendid display of latest state of the art arms and ammunition including modern precision weapons used by the army and paramilitary forces in the Capt Kernel Sher Khan stadium. To witness the event, people were asked to carry their national identity card for verification at the entrance.
