ISLAMABAD - The first convocation of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University, PIMS, would be held at Pak-China Centre on August 13.

Prof Javed Akram, vice chancellor SZAB Medical University, PIMS, informed the journalists at National Press Club on Wednesday that 50 doctors would be awarded terminal medical degrees by the SZAB Medical University. He said that postgraduate medical students would be awarded gold medals in the specialties of basic medical sciences, gynaecology & obstetrics, surgery & allied, and paediatrics while two medals would be awarded with name of Chancellor Gold Medal and Vice Chancellor Gold Medal. "SZAB Medical University is already holding talks with international universities in UK, US, Europe, Turkey, Japan and Middle East for having joint collaboration in the field of medicine and research to strengthen the base of medical education and improve the standards of medical research in Pakistan," maintained Prof Javed.

The vice chancellor said that medical university is primarily focused at improving the healthcare system at PIMS and with internationally recognised medical faculty and best team of doctors in Pakistan PIMS is performing far better job in public health sector if compared to any other hospital in Pakistan. Responding to a question about the help extended by SZAB Medical University to the IDPs, Prof Javed said that Pakistan Army has acknowledged the efforts made by hospital faculty and its employees. "A medical team mission of over 70 employees of university hospital PIMS is still working at Bannu field medical hospital established by SZAB Medical University and actively participating in army-led relief Operation which army itself appreciated," he noted.
