Brisk preparations are afoot to celebrate Independence Day in the district and official, non-official and educational activities have been started. In this connection most of the public and private buildings are being decorated with national flags, buntings and banners of heroes particularly those sacrificed their lives for defending the sacred homeland.

A special speech contest on the topic of Pakistan Ideology was held here in Govt High School. It was chaired by MPA Malik Fiaz Ahmad Awan, who stressed the students to follow Pakistan ideology due to which the sacred homeland was attained after supreme sacrifices of millions of Muslims. He also advised the students to concentrate on their studies to make their career bright to make the country strong and prosperous.

Most of the city roads have been decorated with colourful flags and banners and different buildings are being illumined during the night. Minor children have shown great enthusiasm in decoration their streets and houses with national flags and buntings.

Likewise, the Independence Day celebrations have also been in full swing at the Govt Sadiq Girls Women University. The celebrations started with Quran Khawani and special prayers in the university for the progress and stability of the country and national solidarity.

GSCWU Registrar Begum Salma Khan informed that the university had been given a new look to mark the Independence celebrations and the Vice-Chancellor Dr Saleem Tariq Khan would inaugurate the tree plantation campaign while the Solidarity Walk would be held on 12th in the university campus.

A seminar under the topic of “National Solidarity/unity and Pakistan” would he held 13th which would be arranged by the History and Political Science departments of the university, she added.

She said that the GSCWU building would be illuminated from 12th to 15th as a part of celebrations while the faculty members and students would join the National Flag Hoisting Ceremony at IUB Abbasia Campus on Aug 14.
