Rawalpindi-Executive District Officer (EDO) Health, Dr Arshad Ali Sabir urged the citizens to clean their roof and underground water tanks properly during winters to avoid spread of mosquitoes that cause dengue.

“The spread of dengue can be controlled up to 80 per cent if the citizens cooperate with the district health department,” he said.  Dr Arshad expressed these views while addressing anti-dengue awareness seminar held at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) the other day.

Deputy District Officer (Health) Dr Sheikh Amir, Resident Director RAC Waqar Ahmed, officers and officials of district health department and a large number of students attended the seminar.

EDO (Health) said that the spread of dengue can be controlled in the next season if the citizens clean their roof and underground water tanks properly.

He said that the dengue mosquitoes also lay eggs even in winter season that can survive for a longer period of time without water. He said larvae start growing as it gets fresh water and healthy environment.

He stressed that the number of dengue affected patients reduced during winter season but the citizens should stay alert and adopt precautionary measures to defeat dengue.

EDO said that a total of 1151 people were affected with dengue from January to November compared to last year during which some 3290 were tested positive. He urged the citizens to cooperate with the government in extradition of dengue.
