Allied Bank, Mastercard sign partnership

KARACHI (PR): Allied Bank Limited, one of Pakistan’s leading private sector commercial banks, has recently entered into a strategic partnership with Mastercard, a leading technology company in the global payments industry. Under this partnership, both Allied Bank and Mastercard will collaborate and launch Mastercard Premium Cards, Digital Payment and Remittance products for Allied Bank customers.

The MoU, in this regard, was signed by Faisal Nadeem Siddiqui, Group Head, Digital Banking Group, Allied Bank and Khalid Elgibali, Division President, Middle East and North Africa, Mastercard. Asif Bashir, Chief Commercial & Retail Banking Group (South), Allied Bank, and Aurangzaib Khan, Area Head, Pakistan & Afghanistan, Mastercard also attended the signing ceremony.

Imran Samad joins Bank of Azad Jammu & Kashmir

MUZZAFFARABAD (PR): Imran Samad joined the Bank of Azad Jammu & Kashmir on November 29, 2016 as CEO and managing director. He has been associated with the banking profession for over three decades. After his MBA, he started his career with PICIC as a financial analyst and worked in various capacities dealing with industry and finance. He has rich experience in dealing with local banks and multilateral agencies and expertise in Corporate Finance, Retail Banking, Consumer Finance, Islamic Banking, Agriculture Finance, SME, Micro Credit, etc. Several years in various banks have earned him repute in areas of business development and organisational turnaround. Recognised as an effective team leader, he has written many articles and is also known as a leading resource person on banking and finance.

He has been serving on academic boards of universities of repute and a visiting resource person at the National Institute of Management, Karachi. He has served the NIB Bank as a senior executive and had been associated in turning around The Bank of Khyber in the capacity of group head, CMG Group Head and Business Management and managing director.

Shamim & Company gets approved employer status

LAHORE (PR): Shamim & Company Private Limited- Pepsi Cola Bottlers has attained the status of Approved Employer from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). ACCA Pakistan awarded this status in recognition of their commitment towards the training and development of ACCA trainees and members. LG head promoted to CEO

ISLAMABAD/SEOUL (PR): LG Electronics (LG) has announced that Seong-jin Jo, the head of its Home Appliance & Air Solution (H&A) Company and one of the three Representative Directors responsible for key decisions of the entire organisation, has been promoted to the position of sole Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Jo’s responsibility will extend across all LG Electronics business units, including the H&A Company, Mobile Communications, Home Entertainment and Vehicle Components, and oversight of over 120 operations around the world.

Jo, 60, joined Goldstar in 1976, becoming part of the team, which developed LG’s first automatic washing machine in 1980. Prior to becoming president of the H&A Company in 2015, he was the head of LG’s H&A washing machine division. In 2007, he received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit from the Korean government in recognition of his valuable contribution to the development of new technologies and Korean industry. More recently, Jo was instrumental in LG’s move into premium appliances with the introduction of the LG SIGNATURE brand and built-in Signature Kitchen Suite as well as building the foundation for future businesses in the areas of IoT and smart homes.

The Board of Directors of LG also promoted Dae-hyun Song (58), currently head of the CIS Region and president of LG Russia, to president and CEO of the Home Appliance & Air Solutions Company, replacing Jo. A 33-year veteran of LG Electronics, Song has been involved on the business side of nearly every major product line of the H&A Company, including air conditioners, refrigerators and cooking appliances. As head of Russia and CIS since 2012, Song was responsible for successfully growing LG’s business in the region during an economically challenging period.

In addition to the promotions of Messrs Jo and Song, five others were promoted to executive vice presidents, thirteen executives were named senior vice presidents and thirty-eight individuals were made new vice presidents. New roles and responsibilities took effect on December 1, with promotions going into effect on January 1, 2017 after the general meeting of shareholders.

United for Healthier Kids

hosts ‘Road to Health’ event

LAHORE (PR): The United for Healthier Kids movement organised an activity, ‘Road to Health’, at the Servis shoe store on M M Alam Road, Lahore. The purpose of the event was to educate the public on the eating habits of children and to guide parents on how they can change their children’s nutritional choices.

The children ran along a small track with two ‘Refreshment Stops’, with each of them given an option to choose any refreshment. The first refreshment stop offered a choice between unhealthy food or fruit; the second stop offered a choice between carbonated and sugary drinks or water.

At the end of the round, the children were given points for the choices they made. Nutritionist stall was also set up to guide parents and help them understand their children’s nutritional needs.

Speaking at the event, Samra Maqbool, head of communication and marketing services, Nestlé Pakistan, said, “We are really happy to see the U4HK campaign playing such a positive role in people’s lives. Children are our future and as parents it is important to be concerned about their health and eating habits. U4HK aims to create awareness within the public so that our children may remain healthy and contribute to the future well being of the country.”

Shahid Hussain, CEO of Servis Shoes, said, “We believe that today’s children face a lot of health-related challenges. Most of these are due to unhealthy eating habits. Unfortunately most parents are unaware of what constitutes healthy eating. Our partnership with U4HK demonstrates our commitment to the welfare of our beloved country.”

British Council, City School sign agreement

LAHORE (PR): The British Council in Pakistan and the City School signed an agreement for assessing and benchmarking English language skills of teachers on December 5.

The signing ceremony was attended by Aurangzeb Firoz, CEO of the City School, and Hasan Khattak, director of examinations services, British Council.

Speaking on the occasion, Hasan Khattak said, “The British Council is delighted to sign this agreement to incorporate a new and innovative global English assessment tool in The City School, one of the largest private school networks in Pakistan. This arrangement will not only allow us to enhance our work with one of our key stakeholders but also set a new standard in hiring across education industry of Pakistan. We are committed to high levels of investment in Pakistan’s education sector.”

Aurangzeb Firoz, CEO of the City School Network, stated, “This partnership is the first of its kind between the British Council and The City School. Our aim is to bring standardisation in City School’s recruitment process and utilise the right tools for assessing skills of English language proficiency of our existing staff and new hiring, adding to quality of our educational services.”

It offers more than three million UK examinations worldwide, helping people gain access to trusted qualifications to support their career and study prospects.

TEVTA sets up job portal for pass outs

LAHORE (PR): The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) has introduced an information system to provide job opportunities to its pass-outs.

TEVTA pass-outs can give their details to get jobs. TEVTA started Skilled Labour Market Information System (SLMIS) from March this year. Presently, CVs of 282,450 trainees are available for recruitment. Similarly, employers are regularly posting available jobs. This was stated by TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while speaking to officers on the progress of SLMIS at the TEVTA Secretariat on Monday.

Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, TEVTA Officers Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Aamer Aziz, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Umer Farooq, Aisha Qazi, Maqsood Ahmad, Sarfraz Anwar and other officers were also present on this occasion.

Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that SLMIS was being appreciated by national and multinational organisations. Now, NAVTTC has also introduced similar labour market information systems in other provinces. At least 32,367 companies have been registered on Skilled Labour Market Information System (SLMIS). About 400 to 500 jobs remain available both within the country and abroad and the number is increasing with the every passing day. The facility of free registration is available to all pass-outs of technical and vocational institutes of TEVTA and employers on this job portal so that unemployed skilled youth may find suitable job opportunities.

The TEVTA chairperson said that this system would help reduce unemployment and enable the skilled youth of Punjab to contribute to socio-economic development of the country. SLMIS developed by TEVTA Punjab will provide key information on Punjab’s labour market, including market trends, skill training opportunities in different trades and technologies, data of passing out students and job seekers as well as vacancies for skilled personnel in the industry, he said.
