ISLAMABAD - PPP's parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday would once again take up the issue of formation of new federal cabinet and finalise the list of cabinet members, who would be sworn in the first phase. Sources within the party informed TheNation that both President and Prime Minister would co-chair the meeting in which the progress so far made on rightsizing of the federal cabinet would be discussed with special reference to the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani's telephonic conversations with the coalition partners and heads of the key opposition parties. The sources further informed that so far both President and Prime Minister had failed to convince the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) on rejoining the federal cabinet while the matter relating to slashing down the share of the coalition partners in the federal cabinet was unresolved. A source in the government informed that slashing down the share of the coalition partners was a tricky affair, as it would have direct bearing on the provincial cabinets in Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The sources said that in the meeting of President Asif Ali Zardari with ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan on Friday night the matter was discussed and the ANP chief had sought time for taking up the matter of slashing down of their share in the federal cabinet with the party leadership as while rightsizing of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa cabinet the same formula would be also applied on the PPP men in the provincial cabinet. Similarly the matter of rightsizing of provincial cabinet was yet to be discussed with the MQM leadership and PPP Sindh chapter would take up the matter with MQM leadership in Sindh soon. The sources in the PPP informed that both President and Prime Minister were of the view that more serious efforts should be made to bring back estranged coalition partners back in the fold of coalition government as it would be in the interest of all. The sources informed that Prime Minister Gilani before dissolving the federal cabinet was likely to meet PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to have their input on the rightsizing of the federal cabinet and progress made on other measures suggested by Mian Nawaz Sharif in his 10-point agenda for the overall governance and economic spruce up.
