LONDON - UK based Tehreek-e-Kashmir has called upon the United Nations and international community to play a pro-active role for swift implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on Kashmir for peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue. On the occasion of Right to Self-Determination Day of Kashmiri people, President Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, Muhammad Ghalib said Kashmir remains unresolved dispute on the agenda of UN for more then 60 years and generations of Kashmiris have grown up in Indian Kashmir in the shadow of oppression and violence perpetrated by Indian occupation forces. He said January 5 is most significant day in the history of Kashmir as people struggle for their right to self-determination. It was the day when United Nations Security Council in 1949 passed a resolution, recognised Kashmiri Peoples right to decide their future with free will. India, he said despite accepting UN Security Council Resolutions showed complete disregard to these resolutions and refused to hold a plebiscite to determine the future of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian denial of Kashmiri peoples right to self determination led to anger and rage of oppressed Kashmiri people which was responded by India in massacre of over 100,000 Kashmiris, savaged brutalities and gang-rape of thousands women, he added. He regretted that plights and suffering of Kashmiri people unprecedented in the human history has hardly been brought to fore by champions of democracy, human rights and human dignity including the United Nations. 'More ironical is that India is being patted and encouraged by some countries who have permanent membership of the UNSC just to make further mockery of the ideals and principles of this world institution and to give it licence to kill more innocent people and jeopardise the peace and stability of the region, he said. About Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, he said, the organisation since its inception in 1985 continue to raise the Kashmir issue at all levels, providing a platform for the Kashmiri Community to unite and work together for Kashmir cause in UK. Tehreek and its selfless workers and supporters worked tirelessly by organising conferences, holding rallies and spreading the message of Kashmiri peoples right to self-determination in UK and Europe. The organisation relentlessly advocated that Kashmirs durable and lasting solution lies in implementation of UNSC resolution, he added. He further said, today Tehreek-e-Kashmir has observed Right of Self- Determination Day across UK to draw attention of the international community towards its responsibilities to preserve peace and stability by resolving Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Resolution. Tehreek Kashmir on this occasion appealed to world human rights organisation to take serious notice of Indian brutalities, gross violation of human rights and unlawful detention of Kashmiri political leadership including Syed Ali Geelani.
