KARACHI - Punjab Colours chalked out a fine 3-2 win over Sindh White to grab the fourth vacant semi final slot in the 10- team PIA sponsored 26th National Women's Hockey Championship here at the Hockey Club of Pakistan. Defending champion Wapda and Pakistan Army from group A and challenger Pakistan Railways from group B have already entered the penultimate round of the championship. Punjab Colours skipper Muneeza Imran got two goals in a space of three minutes just before the half time whistle. Earlier in the second minute of the push off Zarina Habib had drew the first blood for the Punjab team which needed win to move into the semi final. Sindh White got their goals through Madiha who scored once each in 27th and 56th minute. Had Sindh drawn the match they had a slim chance to take the semi final spot. Earlier in the day Punjab White had better of KPK by 2-1 margin. Anisa Fatima in the 6th minute and Ambreen Nawaz in 15th scored for the winners. Gul Pari pulled one back for the losers in 28th minute. Pakistan Army taught a hockey lesson to Sindh Color when they hammered the home team 14-0. Shahida had four goals, Shamshad three,Ayesha and Nazia two each and Zeba, Tasneem and Nazia got one each. In the last match of the day three, Balochistan scored its first win when they beat Islamabad 4-1. Faryal netted three in a row in 30th,36th and 42 minute to register a hat trick. Fatima completed the score line. Azra scored for Islamabad. Sindh teams have fared poorly in the championship. As a host it was expected that one of the two teams from the province would at 4least enter the semi final stage. But it did not happen. Both Sindh teams were the weakest combination in the championship. The Sindh Hockey Association has held trials her recently in which as many as forty players appeared.
