Governor Taseers unjust and unexplained criticism of the blasphemy law did not go well with the public at large. This matter was not his domain. It was law ministers task and the law minister made it clear that he did not intend to change the law at all. Blasphemy law prevents inter-religious clash and resultant ethnic cleansing. Governor Taseer was playing with street emotions and he had to pay the ultimate price. It is usually governors job to be a quiet federal representative. Besides, he was considerably rich and should have had his own security staff to be on the safe side. His family had to pay with grief. He unwittingly made an image of himself akin to Rushdie and earned the ire of the public. M SHAIKH, Islamabad, January 6.
