LAKKI MARWAT - A meeting, chaired by District Police Officer Muhammad Idrees Khan at his office, on Sunday reviewed law and order situation and assessed the performance of policemen in actions against criminals and anti-social elements.

Matters pertaining to arrests of outlaws and recoveries of contraband and weapons during the lat year and previous month also came under discussion. Among others SDPO Lakki Bashar Khan, SDPO Naurang Arif Wazir and station house officers of police stations attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that police captured 78 proclaimed offenders and 130 suspects besides seized nine klashnikovs, a kalakovs, five rifles, 24 shotguns, 39 pistols, two hand grenades, three daggers, 7,375 bullets, 11,935 grams hashish, 2000 grams opium and 768 grams heroin in the last month of 2012.

The district police chief directed subordinate police officials to tighten noose around criminals and anti state elements in their respective areas and maintain peace at all costs.

 He also directed that action to eliminate sanctuaries of proclaimed offenders and gambling and narcotics dens should be accelerated.

“The prime responsibility of police is to do good and destroy evil”, he maintained and said that efficient policemen would get reward while derelict cops would face departmental action.

Meanwhile, the office bearers of Government Contractors Association district chapter have strongly condemned the authorities of Pakistan Engineering Council for exorbitant increase in the charges of license fees for constructors. 

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, the association’s president Haji Muhammad Zaman and member of executive body Haji Amanullah said tat financial constraints had already multiplied the worries of contractors and at such a juncture increase in renewal fees was intolerable for them.

They said that PEC sprinkled salt on the wounds of contractors by making 500 percent increase in the charges of license renewal fees.

They made it clear that contractors would not deposit increased amount at all.

They warned that contractor community would go on a province wide strike if PEC authorities did not withdraw increase in the renewal fees.
