PESHAWAR - Students of various departments of the University of Peshawar (UoP) held a protest demonstration against the administration for not providing them with facilities.

The protesting students led by Sardar Fakhr-e-Alam, President Mutahida Talba Mahaz and Atteq-ur-Rahman, GS were holding banners and placards inscribed with different slogans in favour of their demands, gathered here outside press club and chanted full-throated slogans against the university administration.

On the occasion while talking to media persons, MTM president Fakh-e-Alam alleged that the university administration especially the vice-chancellor was not interested to resolve the problems being faced by students, due to which most of the students along with their parents greatly affected. Enumerating the difficulties and lack of facilities at the university, he lamented that despite huge financial budgets and foreign grants to the university for the betterment of students and provision of facilities, the students at hostels and in the academic centres faced numerous difficulties, he added.  The students’ leaders also presented a list of their demands in which they also demanded reduction of different fees and elimination of self-finance scheme from the university, saying the instalment system should be restored for the poor students.

They also alleged that the students of BS and evening shift students were deprived of hostel facility, which they termed injustice, atrocity and a discriminative policy with these students.

They maintained that the prices of daily use commodity items in the university were also going up after each passing day and due to lack of control mechanism., where as the quality of these commodity items were also substandard.

The university administration should keep tight check on such directly affecting students’ issues and do not compel the students on protest. The protesting students activists of different groups under the banner of MTM threatened to close the university, if the government was failed to accept their demands by resolving the problems facing the students.
