KARACHI - Administrator Karachi Fazalur Rehman has said that city the government has by Saturday night evacuated 38,288 people from coastal areas to 164 relief camps so that they could be saved from anticipated cyclone. The Revenue Department is working round-the-clock in this connection. The CDGK and town administrations have taken timely measures for instant drainage of rainwater after heavy rain in the city. He expressed these views during his visit in the city during rain on the night intervening Saturday and Sunday. The administrator said that dewatering pumps had been installed in all such places where storm-water drainage system was not existed. Within few hours all rain water will be drain away from these areas. He visited Clifton, Kalapul, Signal Free Corridor-,I, II and III, MA Jinnah Road, Kharadar, Methadar, Shahra-e-Faisal, Airport, Malir, PECHS Blok-6, Admin Society, Saddar and other areas of the city and issued on-the-spot directive for deputation of relief teams in all those places where rainwater not drained out completely. He said that the EDO Municipal Services, the EDO Works and Services, the EDO Revenue, Director General Parks and other officers of the CDGK including city warden and fire-brigade were on the roads and serving the citizens. A total of 150 vehicles, with a staff of 1,000 are taking part in the relief work.The Karachi Administrator said that advance measures were taken by city government and town administration for instant exit of rainwater on all those 36 places that had been identified during the a survey. Many of these places were already cleared and work underway in rest of them. He said that encroachments made on major drains were causing hurdles in the smooth flow of water and the surrounding residential areas were facing difficulties due to this. The residents of coastal areas have been shifted to relief camps.
