LAHORE To mount pressure on the government political parties, after initial consultations, have agreed upon a six-point agenda to form an opposition alliance of different parties in the parliament. According to the sources, the agenda include protection of national interests against US designs, curtailing the corruption, elimination of commissions/graft, continuity of democratic process, to curb the ever-rising inflation and to take decisions through parliament instead of individuals. The bigwigs of the opposition parties, at a meeting after the dinner hosted by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad late on Friday night, decided to forge an alliance for an 'active opposition in the Parliament to step up pressure on the government to safeguard the national interests and serve the masses. Fazls get-up-and-go resembles the efforts made by late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, who led Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) that worked tirelessly for the restoration of democracy in the country against Pervez Musharrafs regime. Expressing PML-Ns resentment over governments inefficiency for curtailment of corruption and trend of commission/graft besides ruining national integrity and other issues, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar expressed PML-Ns stance on breakup with the PPP in Punjab and pointed out that it was the time when PPP governments wrong policies must be resisted strongly in and outside the Parliament. On the other hand, political pundits say the alliance is an attempt to avert spillover of the Middle East-like situation to the country. The masses has been facing a large number of problems such as rising inflation, unemployment unabated corruption etc. though the country has an active media and democracy, said the experts, adding that such situation may stoke uprising by the masses, that would deluge all. They maintained that the participation of PML-N with the backing of its chief Nawaz Sharif in such a coalition is vital as, earlier, the party running its politic affairs solo, avoiding any joint opposition against the government in and out the Parliament. The analysts, terming the situation arising in Islamabad politics is very important, say the politics in drawing rooms and dinning tables is vital for political change in the country as Nawaz Sharif gave go-head signal to his leaders to participate in such activities. Earlier, Nawaz Sharif was an obstacle to change, they said, adding that if he (Nawaz Sharif) became party against the PPP government, the national politic scenario would changed after the upcoming budget though he barred from decision-making in such meeting. They said there were two opinions on whether Fazls initiated the move at his own or being pushed. However, there is one mastermind of this indicative, the experts concluded.
