LAHORE – Ali Khan with his unbeaten knock of 87 guided Karachi Research Laboratories (KRL) to defeat Lahore Lions by six wickets in the One-day National Cup Division-II fifth-round match here at LCCA ground.

Lahore Lions, batting first, scored 212 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Though Fahadul Haq played brilliantly for Lions and smashed superb 90 runs off 124 balls with the help of eight fours but his innings could not save his team to face defeat. Other notable players were Saad Nasim and M Hamza who scored 35 and 30 runs respectively. M Azam took two wickets for 42 runs for the winners.

KRL, in reply, chased the target for the loss of four wickets in 44.4 overs. Ali Khan played superb innings of 87 runs not out off 120 balls laced with 11 fours and two sixes and was ably assisted by Bazid Khan (33) and Yasir Arafat (52*). Waqar Ahmed got two wickets for 38 runs.

In another group A match, United Bank beat Peshawar Panthers by four wickets at Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Peshawar Panthers, batting first, made 159 runs in 41.2 overs with M Rizwan scoring 36 runs and M Fayyaz and Mahfooz Sabri making 26 runs each. Ruman Raees Khan took 3-25, Kashif Bhatti 3-36 and Misbah Khan 2-36.

In reply, United Bank achieved the target for the loss of six wickets in 37.3 overs. Tahir Mughal scored 67 runs off 90 balls with eight fours. Riaz Afridi took 2-42, Waqas Ahmed 2-31 and Afaq Ahmed 2-39.

Hyderabad Hawks beat Karachi Zebras by five wickets at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad.
