JHANG - Polio virus has been found in a three-year old girl in village Kholara of Jhang.

Following the virus reported in Sajda Parveen, officials of the district administration and the Health Department have become active and are pay attention to the anti polio drive starting on March 12 to 15. The target has been fixed to administer polio drops to 353,560 children of 5 years age during the campaign in the district.

This was informed during a meeting of District Polio Eradication Committee held under the chair of DCO Shahid Niaz. The meeting was further informed that a total of 971 health department teams had been constituted for administering polio drops to the children while 30 zonal supervisors and 180 area in-charges would perform duties to monitor the campaign.

The DCO reviewed the arrangements regarding the campaign and directed the officers concerned to make an all-out effort in this regard. He also directed for launching an awareness campaign to educate the parents regarding polio virus. He directed the officers to follow coordinated strategy for 100 percent coverage of anti polio drive and maximum support should be extended to the health department teams at the grassroots level.

He stressed that the anti polio campaign should be taken as an important national task to rout out polio virus from the country. The DCO said that six health officials had already been suspended for negligence and dutifulness and strict action would be taken if the fixed target was not achieved.
