LAHORE - Punjab University Academic Staff Association on Tuesday held its first emergency meeting of the newly elected executive council under the leadership of President Dr Aamir Sarwar.

The meeting, which was attended by all newly-elected members, nominated four members including Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Dr Muhammad Rafique and Dr Rukhsana Kausar.

It also passed a resolution condemning against brutal police torture on security guard Imran, who was booked on a student’s complaint of lifting of his motorbike. The ASA requested the authorities to punish those policemen found guilty of torturing the security guard. They also offered Fateha for the departed soul.

The ASA executive council also strongly condemned and criticized the negative attitude of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, saying it was doing filthy politics on dead bodies. The ASA said that IJT was behind all the on-campus crimes and their nazims and activists had also been found guilty of lifting vehicles from university premises. They demanded of the Punjab Chief Minister to launch an operation against the people residing illegally at the varsity’s hostels and eliminate such criminal elements with the help of university administration.

The ASA also condemned PPP candidate Waheeda Shah upon her misbehaviour with the polling staff and expressed solidarity with the teachers.

The ASA executive council also thanked PU teachers for showing trust in them through their vote. The Executive Council decided that the newly elected ASA would bring the demands of the teachers to the relevant forum as soon as possible.
