LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has kept alive the tradition of demolishing the structures owned by his kin, which create hurdles in the construction of flyovers and roads.

The latest example is of a petrol pump of a close relative located near the under-construction Canal Flyover on the Ferozepur Road, as the chief minister has refused to give any favour to him and ordered timely completion of the project while ignoring the influential people.

The owner of the patrol pump said the demolition of their patrol pump could have been avoided if Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif opted to order so, but he was very strict and refused to entertain their requests.

It is worth recalling that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had resorted to the same exercise during his previous tenure when he ordered to demolish buildings and petrol pumps belonging to his close relatives on Jail Road and Beadon Road for their construction.

When contacted, an official of the local administration confirmed the reports, saying the chief minister had issued directives to demolish the said petrol pump.

The owner had been informed about the orders, as the chief minister said it was necessary to remove all the hurdles in the infrastructure-related initiatives, he added.
