LAHORE - Colony/Newage defeated Ittehad Textile by eight goals to seven in the Porsche National Open Polo Championship for the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2014 nail-biting match here at the Lahore Polo Club on Thursday.

Ittehad Textile started their campaign in great style and slammed two back-to-back goals to take 2-0 lead. Raja Samiullah and Hissam Ali Hyder had one goal each for Ittehad. Saqib Khan Khakwani hit a goal for Colony/Newage to reduce the lead to 2-1 at the end of the first chukker. Ittehad started the second chukker in the same style and smashed two goals both converted by Hissam to take 4-1 lead. Matias Vial Perez managed a goal for Ittehad to reduce the lead to 4-2.

Ittehad continued the momentum of opening chukker with a goal as they once again scored first goal of the third chukker with the help of Hamza Mawaz Khan who hit spot penalty near goal posts to make it 5-2. Matias and Naveed M Sheikh then managed two important goals for Colony Sugar to reduce the lead to 5-4.

The fourth chukker saw the same routine of Ittehad scoring opening goal of the chukker to make it 6-4. Hissam was the scorer this time for Ittehad. Matias then played superb polo and managed a hat-trick to help Colony Sugar take 7-6 lead. Two of Matias goals were field goals while one was 40 yards penalty hit. Hissam then scored a leveler to finish the fourth half 7-7.

Both the teams gave tough time to each other in the fifth chukker but all their efforts went in vain as the remained goalless. Saqib Khan of Colony/Newage was instrumental in scoring the golden goal in the sixth and decisive chukker to guide his team to well-deserving victory. The score after the last chukker was 8-7 in favour of Colony/Newage. Terence Spilsbury and Agustin Canale supervised the match while Ahmed Ali Tiwana was referee.
