The ringleader of a notorious gang of rustlers was killed by the firing of his own accomplices near Kanwanwali village the other night.

According to villagers and police, six cattle-lifters stormed into the haveli of Zulifqar, son of Mukhtar and succeeded in lifting away three buffaloes. However, Zulifqar woke up and raised alarms. Thereupon, he and other villagers chased the accused but they started firing as a result of which one of the bullets hit their ringleader, who was killed on the spot. He was later identified as Mohsin, son of Naveed. However, all other accused managed to flee from the scene under the cover of darkness.

The police have registered a case.

In another incident, a minor boy was crushed by a speeding van on Hafizabad-Sukheke Road near Uddoki village.

According to police source, six-year-old Ali Hassan, son of Muhammad Nawaz of Uddoki was attempting to cross the road when a recklessly driven van (LHP-4899) knocked him down. 

The police have registered a case against the driver.

Meanwhile, in Faisalabad, a woman was killed and two others received severe burns after roof a house caved in due to fire here on Thursday.

Rescue sources said that the fire erupted due to unknown reasons at a residential house located in Hajveri Town of Havelian area. Due to fire the dilapidated roof of the house collapsed, killing a woman on the spot.

Fire brigades and rescue personnel reached the scene, retrieved the body and injured from the rubble and shifted them to hospital.
