A probe has been launched against joint secretary of Religious Affairs Ministry, Aftab Islam over the Hajj residence scam. The joint secretary of the ministry is accused of renting buildings still under contruction for around Rs260 million. A three member committee, formed on the prime ministers directives, has launched an inquiry into the rates and reason for renting these buildings for the pilgrims. Earlier, the Ministry strongly denied allegations of financial irregularities in the governments Hajj scheme. The Ministry asserted that buildings were rented 3 kilometres away because nearby apartments were either under construction or not in a good shape.
