LAHORE - About half a dozen cars and seven motorbikes were stolen and 48 cell phones were snatched everyday in the provincial capital during the month of October. In addition Rs 8.9 million were snatched daily during the same period, official statistics say. It may be worth mentioning here that almost Rs 7.6 millions, four to five cars, five motorbikes and 40 cell phones were snatched from the citizens everyday in September besides five people including two security guards were killed in the same month. The statistics of Crime Record Office Branch of the Capital City Police Office show huge surge in crime rate as compared to the previous month of September as no less than Rs 269 million, 195 cars, 205 motorbikes and 1312 cell phones were stolen/snatched in October. At least three people including a man and his son were gunned down and over 25 others suffered multiple injuries over resistance during dacoity-bids. Lahore police also claimed to have smashed 574 criminal gangs and arrested their 1,867 members, while looted property worth Rs 216 million was also recovered during the first nine months of the current year. No less than 3,928 cases were traced against the 1,867 accused, including 12 cases of murders, 16 cases of dacoity-cum-murder, 78 of dacoity, 1,366 cases of robbery, 1,721 of burglary besides 734 other cases. Likewise, Lahore Police claimed to recover including Rs 18 million in cash, 9kg and 38 tolas gold ornaments, 98 cars, 548 motorcycles, 1,823 cell phones, 20 pickups and rickshaws, two tractors, three trucks, six Toyota Hi-aces, bicycles, laptops, watches, foreign currency and other precious items. Notwithstanding the fact, none of the cars or bikes was handed over to any deprived victim, the 'conjurers in Crime Record Office Branch of the Capital City Police Office compiled the data in such a form that the citizens may be satisfied about the efforts of Lahore Police. Cantt Division: Over 35 cars and 25 motorbikes were lifted/snatched from different areas of 14 Police Stations including South Cantt, Hadyara, Batapur, Burki, Harbanspura, Sarwar Road, Manawan and Ghaziabad. Civil Lines Division: About 20 cars and above 15 bikes were lifted from the limits of 11 Police Stations including Civil Lines, Lytton Road, Mozang, Garhi Shahu, Shalimar and Mughalpura. City Division: Above 25 cars and about 40 bikes were picked from 20 Police Stations of City Division, which include: Islampura, Shahdara, Ravi Road, Shadbagh, Lorry Adda, Badami Bagh, Gowalmandi, Mochi Gate and Lower Mall. Model Town Division: As many as 30 cars and 32 motorbikes were robbed from its 12 Police Stations including Kahna, Ghalib Market, Gulberg, Liaqatabad, Kot Lakhpat and Icchra. Iqbal Town Division: At least 25 cars and 30 bikes were picked from 10 Police Stations including Iqbal Town, Millat Park, Samanabad, Nawankot and Gulshan Ravi. Saddar Division: Above 25 cars and 26 motorbikes were lifted from its 9 Police Stations, which include: Chung, Township, Hanjerwal, Sabzazaar, Johar Town and Raiwind City. Moreover, a youth Usman, resident of Shama Chowk located in Icchra, was gunned down by gangsters over offering resistance during a dacoity bid on October 14. In another incident, Nazir Ahmed along with his son Saifullah, residents of Misri Shah, were killed on October 16 inside their home. The data shows over two dozens people including ASI Kashif at Outfall Road, two police officers including Amjad and Kashif, citizens namely Rafiullah, Mehmood Boti, Mohammad Hanif, a bank officer Javed and his spouse, Waleed, Anwar, Nazeer Hussain and the others sustained severe injuries during robberies bids during the month of October.
