ISLAMABAD, (APP) - Oleg Gorbulin, Chief Executive, National Investment Agency, Russia visiting Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that Russian investors are interested for joint ventures investments in Pakistan and urged for providing investment opportunities in special economic and investment zones in Pakistan. He said that Russia is interested to enhance investment through joint ventures and collaboration in different areas, said a press release issued here on Saturday. Gorbulin said that both countries should work on the plans of cooperation to strength the trade and economic ties. He expressed the desire of investments in power sector to meet the energy demands of Pakistan. He said that investments can be made in coal and hydropower sectors to generate electricity. Gorbulin also identified areas of mining, copper and gold for Russian investments and expressed the hope that visit of President of Pakistan to Russia in next month will open up new horizons of cooperation and enhancing trade and investment opportunities. Mahfooz Elahi, President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that through Agreement of Economic Cooperation, Pakistan and Russia can work together to join hands in various sectors. He giving the details of investment said that Russian investors should see Pakistan as an excellent place for investment because of tremendous investment opportunities in power, oil and gas, agriculture, pharmaceutical, food processing, financial, mining and other areas. President said that at the time of global economic recession Pakistanis financial sector showed tremendous resilience and not a single bank went into bankruptcy, whereas many economies of the world suffered huge economic losses. Mahfooz Elahi said that almost all sectors of the economy are open for investment with attractive incentives that gives Pakistan an edge over all its regional competitors. The government has declared power sector as one of the top priorities for investment and is taking necessary measures to build a more conducive environment by simplifying procedures to facilitate potential investors, he added.
