Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has urged the US President, Barack Obama to use all his influence on India to give the people of Jammu and Kashmir their inalienable right to self-determination. According to KMS, Syed Ali Gilani in a memorandum issued in Srinagar and addressed to President Obama said, On your visit to India, the people of Jammu and Kashmir expect you to impress upon your host to address the Kashmir issue immediately. The veteran Hurriyet leader maintained that resolution of the Kashmir dispute with American assistance would go a long way in eradication of trust deficit between the US and the Muslim World. He further stated that in spite of unprecedented mass mobilization in the occupied territory right of self-determination continued to be denied to the Kashmiri people. Syed Ali Gilani also called upon the Kashmiri Muslims to undertake patrolling of the Sikh dominated areas across the Valley till President Obama stayed in India to thwart any conspiracy against them. New Delhi is leaving no stone unturned to defame the sacred cause of Kashmiris. In 2000, during the visit of then US President, Bill Clinton, 35 Sikhs were massacred. The communal forces have always been targeting the minorities. The killing of Sikhs after the killing of Indira Gandhi in 1984 clearly establishes that the minorities including Muslims and Christians are not safe in India, he added.
