MIRPUR (AJK) - Under the spirit of special amnesty on the eve of the religious festival of Eidul Azha for the prisoners who had committed minor crimes, four such prisoners of Mirpur Central Jail were released here the other day, it was officially declared. The release of four prisoners, facing the sentences of minor terms, came on the orders of District & Sessions judge Mirpur Raja Tariq Javed during his visit to the Central Jail along with District Qazi and Civil Judge Sardar Shah Zaman to review the facilities being provided to the jail inmates. The judges inspection team went round various blocks of the jail and enquired about the facilities being extended to the prisoners. They also inquired from the prisoners about the supply of food by the jail management and other matters. The under-trial imprisoned accused informed the judges team of their severe concern about the slow pace of under trial cases in AJK Supreme and Shariat Courts which, they stated, led to the prolonging of their undue stay behind the bars. The prisoners also called for deputation of strong armed police contingents for their life security during their travelling from Jail to the local district hospital in connection with medical check-up. The judges appreciated the dispensation of required facilities to the prisoners. Earlier, Senior Superintendent Jail Raja Razaq Ahmed Khan briefed the judges inspection team of the facilities being extended to the jail inmates. In order to intensify the security in and around the jail, the jail Superintendent called for immediate installation of CCTV cameras and detectors.
