LAHORE - The worst traffic jam was observed on Monday owing to security arrangements when PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif made surprise visit to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to inquire after the health of injured in Karbala Gamay Shah blasts. Half of the City was entirely sealed and all the leading arteries were completely blocked for any kind of movement between 1:30pm to 3:30 pm. Uppar Mall to Lower Mall, Shadman to Governor House, Kalma Cowk to Mozang, Regal Chowk to Sir Ganga Ram and from Lahore Press Club to Punjab Assembly Chowk, the traffic was suspended four more than two hours as hundreds of vehicles remained stuck for hours on leading roads of the City. Service lanes and main arteries were witnessed blindly packed with vehicles on Monday afternoon especially on Lahore Canal Road from Jail Road Underpass to New Campus Bridge, from Ferozepur Road Underpass to Kalma Chowk and on some parts of the Jail Road and The Mall. An annoyed student Moazzma, 21, who was stopped at Mozang Chowk by security personnel, censured the government and said the government policy of blocking roads unnecessarily to facilitate VVIPs movement was the major inconvenience for the people. She said the VVIPs should never inform about their arrival if they were in favour of providing facilities to the commuters. Traffic wardens however said the attitude of the motorists was natural as many of them were in hurry and wanted to reach their destinations without any delay but they remained stuck due to VVIPs movement. Giving directions to police officers at stairs of Emergency Department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Civil Lines Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Haider Ashraf told to this scribe that the City police responded on emergency call for the security of PML-N Chief. The SP said one DSP, two SHOs and some 20 police officers have been deputed at various points to ensure security arrangements.
