BAHAWALPUR - Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa underlined the need for lifting the quality and standards of education at all levels and efforts to impart professional and technical education to make young generation earning hand rather adding to the unemployment ratio. Presiding over the 13th session of the IUB Senate here at Abbasia Campus on Thursday, the governor pointed out that rising unemployment was causing frustration among the youth, especially the educated class, adding that the situation warranted bringing changes in the educational system for securing future of the young generation and bring prosperity to the society.Latif Khosa stressed that the education was the key for development and only those nations achieved prosperity which paid special attention to quality education. We have to focus on the quality and standards of education to equip our young generation with tool for national progress," the governor elaborated.  He called on the teachers to concentrate on the character-building of the students to keep social and moral values alive which were prerequisites for a civilized society.Latif Khosa expressed his confidence in the potential of the younger generation and said that efforts should be made to explore their talent and they should be guided in the right direction for healthy society to materialise the dream of a strong country. He appreciated the improvement in the academic and research standards of the IUB and cgreeted Vice Chancellor Dr Mukhtar and faculty members for their untiring efforts. He expressed the hope that the IUB would maintain its standard of imparting quality education and research for more progress in the days to coming. He urged the people to develop harmony and unity among their ranks for national solidarity.  During the meeting the IUB Senate endorsed all administrative, academic, economic and other decisions of the annual budgets and Syndicate meetings.Earlier, 51st Syndicate meeting of the IUB was also held under the chair of IUB VC Dr Mukhtar which approved the annual budget amounting to Rs2220.290 million for the fiscal year of 2012-13 with a deficit of Rs278.050 million. About Rs448.268 million has been allocated for the development expenditures of the IUB in the budget.The meeting also approved the posting of contract and regular employees and extension in the contract of different employees.MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali, HEC representative, Dr Naveed A Malik, Virtual University Rector Dr Khalid Mehmood, former Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi VC Abdul Hakim Noon and other members attended the meeting.
