The Regional Tax Directorate Gujranwala has frozen the bank accounts of 15 more tax defaulters over the non-payment of taxes, concealing the facts about their source of income and properties in their tax returns.

It also imposed ban on the sale, purchase and transfer of 25 vehicles. These defaulters belong to Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts.

The FBR issued the arrest warrants of 18 traders and industrialists for not paying taxes and gave three-day deadline to 10 other defaulters for clearing their dues.

On the special directives issued by Inland Revenue Gujranwala Chief Commissioner Mansur Ahmed Bajwa, the special teams of FBR led by Sheikh Muneer Ahmed (Inland Revenue Officer), contacted the local banks for freezing the accounts of the defaulters. The FBR now would withdraw their amounts from the accounts to recover their outstanding arrears.

FBR officials said cases of 28 more defaulters were also ready and the banks would freeze their accounts soon.

Earlier, the FBR had frozen the bank accounts of 30 traders and industrialists last week. According to the Waqas Aslam, the additional commissioner Income Tax Gujranwala, raids to arrest of such defaulters would start soon if they remain unable to pay their outstanding dues.

Tax lawyers’ role praised

Inland Revenue Sialkot Chief Commissioner Abdul Rehman Dogar has praised the role of the Sialkot based tax lawyers for resolving taxpayers’ issues, facilitating the business community and bridging the gulf between the taxpayers and Regional Tax Office.

He was addressing an annual meeting of the Sialkot Tax Bar Association here. The chief commissioner sought effective and positive suggestions from the tax lawyers regarding developing good working relationship between the bar association and Regional Tax Office. He announced that all the problems of local tax lawyers would be resolved on priority ensuring the early provision of land for establishing the office of the Sialkot Tax Bar Association.

Sialkot Tax Bar Association President Shahid Mehmood, District Bar Association President Khawaja Awais Mushtaq and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Fazal Jillani were also present.

DBA President Khawaja Awais Mushtaq announced to donate furniture and other accessories to Tax Bar Association (TBA) on behalf of the District Bar Association (DBA) Sialkot.
