There has been an onslaught of taxes including an almost weekly rise in petroleum and CNG prices and daily escalation of food prices. This is making life hell. All decisions are being made on forums other than the Parliament. An in depth discussion on any thing that affects lives of the people to such an extent is a must. The nation is facing crisis after crisis but the august houses of parliament, it seems, are on a long vacation after the budget session. Gone are the days of hope for our naive people who had voted on the false promises of a better future. Meanwhile, it is business as usual in Islamabad with extravagant junkets abroad on the money of this poor nation. -DR ZULFIQAR HAIDER, via e-mail, July 24.
