LAHORE - Hopeful Lawyers and political activists of different parties on Thursday held a joint protest rally sensing victory of their long struggle in the form of impeachment of Pervez Musharraf and restoration of deposed judges. They were saying that withdrawal of notification of eight judges of Sindh High Court was also due to the pressure of lawyers' movement. Following the call of the Pakistan Bar Council, the city lawyers held their weekly protest rally from Lahore High Court to Punjab Assembly Building and observed a partial boycott of courts. Lahore Bar Association (LBA) could not take out rally from Aiwan-e-Adl due to one month vacation in subordinate courts. LBA office-bearers, however, joined the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) general house meeting and participated in the rally. Some office-bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association and Lahore Tax Bar Association also joined the meeting. After holding their general house meeting, the lawyer took to the GPO Chowk to hold the rally, where the activists of PML-N, Tehrik-e-Insaf, Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party, Jamat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Tehrik-e-Khaksar and Labour Party also joined them. Activists of all these parties were marching with the lawyers holding their party flags. Ahead of the rally there was a group of Tehrik-e-Insaf activists and next to them were Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party activists with a gap of few feet. PML-N activists were behind PMAP activists. Much active than all protesters, were PML-N activists who were accompanied by two of their leaders - MPA Mohsin Latif and MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmed. Every group was protesting in its own way to make its presence felt before the cameras. However all the protesters were chanting pro-sacked judges and anti-Musharraf slogans. Reaching at the Faisal Chowk protesters expressed their aggression against the delay in reinstatement of judges. Remaining for about 20 minutes there, they dispersed peacefully. Earlier, a joint session of the Lahore high Court, SCBA, Lahore Bar Association and Lahore Tax Bar Association asked present government to restore all deposed judges before August 14 to avoid further instability in the country. One of the top lawyers leaders Hamid Khan Advocate advised the lawyers not to react against any sacked judge considering him of accepting reappointment until he would not take oath. SCBA secretary Amin Javed said presidency was hatching conspiracies against reinstatement of judges to avoid impeachment. He appreciated the government for suspending the notification of reappointment of 8 judges of Sindh High Court. LHCBA president Anwar Kamal disowned the poem recited in the general house meeting by Aftab Sherazi Advocate wherein he condemned PPP co chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Kamal said this could be his own views but not that of the bar. He said as both the coalition partners were struggling for reinstatement of the judges, no lawyers should condemn any one of them. Through a resolution, the joint session declared handing over of Dr Afia Siddiqi to the US as illegal and unconstitutional. It declared it as involvement in Pakistan's internal affairs. It said that Dr Siddiqi was implicated in fabricated cases. The government should do best to bring her to Pakistan, the house demanded. It also demanded the human rights bodies to take steps for return of Dr Siddiqi.
