KARACHI - The Supreme Court mandated commission on Water And Sewerage in Sindh on Tuesday summoned chairman of Chinese company responsible for collections and lifting of solid water from Karachi’s districts, within two days.

The one-man commission headed by former judge of Supreme Court Justice (r) Amir Hani Muslim has conducted hearing here at the Sindh High Court wherein a representative of the Chinese company sought two-day time for the presence of the company chairman.

Earlier, the commission directed the chairman of Chinese company to appear in person but didn’t set the time line for his appearance. In Tuesday’s proceedings of the commission, the Chinese company sought more time for appearance of its chairman which commission of granted by ordering to make his appearance in two days times.

The commission ordered the appearance of chairman Chinese companies after the Sindh Solid Waste management Board (SSWMB) submitted report on the performance of the Chinese contractor of front end collection and disposal of municipal solid waste districts in districts South and East and pointed out Chinese contractor is not performing the requisite in terms of contract agreement.

The commission also took up the issue of functioning of the Trauma Centre needs and urged that the issues confronting it should be resolved immediately. The commission ordered Planning Boards chairman, secretary health, secretary works, chairman and task force and the focal person on Karachi affairs to meet and resolve the issues suggesting comprehensive way forward to take the project ahead. The committee shall submit a report on or before 13th of August.

As far as the installation of incinerators is concerned no positive progress has been made by the department thought timeframe was given by them the commission was informed which observed that the timeframe has apparently not been followed.

Additional Secretary Health Jamaluddin Jalani is the officer who was supposed to take care of installing the incinerators. According to the Director Development Shaista Mubarak, the matter is in process but she was not sure about the latest update. The commission directed the Secretary Health Department to submit complete report in the next hearing.
